As I was driving to work this morning, I was listening to the radio and I got to thinking about song lyrics. How they affect us, and what they can mean to us. The song that got me thinking was by Jaci Velasquez, and it's called "Lay It Down."

I’ve been looking ‘til my eyes are tired of looking
Listening ‘til my ears are numb from listening
Praying ‘til my knees are sore from kneeling
On the bedroom floor

I know that You know that my heart is aching
I’m running out of tears and my will is breaking
I don’t think that I can carry
The burden of it anymore

All of my hopes and my dreams and my best laid plans
Are slowly slipping through my folded hands

Chorus
So I’m gonna lay it down
I’m gonna learn to trust You now
What else can I do
Everything I am depends on You
And if the sun don’t come back up
I know Your love will be enough
I’m gonna let it be, I’m gonna let it go
I’m gonna lay it down

I’ve been walking through this world like I’m barely living
Buried in the doubt of this hole I’ve been digging
But You’re pulling me out and I’m finally breathing
In the open air

This room may be dark but I’m finally seeing
There’s a new ray of hope and now I’m believing
That the past is the past and the future’s beginning to look brighter now

‘Cause all of my hopes and my dreams and my best laid plans
Are safe and secure when I place them in Your hands

Chorus
So I’m gonna lay it down
I’m gonna learn to trust You now
What else can I do
Everything I am depends on You
And if the sun don’t come back up
I know Your love will be enough
I’m gonna let it be, I’m gonna let it go
I’m gonna lay it down

Fairly simple words - but at the same time, one can find meaning and thought questions in them. So - what does music mean to you? Do you have a favorite song? If so, why? Share it with us!

I LOVE music. The older I get the more I understand the power that music has on us. I really have to be careful about what I listen too, because it has such an effect on me. My fav music would have to be the old hymns. Those songs say so much and when I really pay attention to the words I can almost feel what the song-writer was feeling when he/she was writing them. And you know, so many of the hymns came out of the writers experiences.

My current fav song is from M.W. Smith. It's "Ancient Words." And the reason why I love it is b/c I am finding that only the power of GOD's word is able to really change me, and when I am in it on a daily basis there is progress!

I also love southren gospel, mountain gospel, anything really that tells a story song that lifts my thoughts to the LORD.

Unfortunately you will hear me subconciously singing whatever I have heard at the gas pump or in a store! When we were at the beach at a food lion I was trailing Linda down an aisle, there was an old beatles song playing and as she went around a corner a lady passed her. As the lady passed by me she burst out laughing and told me that the lady she just passed was singing the same song as I was! And I didn't even know I was singing it!
